How can we help?
Answers to what people ask most. If yours isn’t here, write to support@archdating.com. A person reads every message.
Getting started
Who can use Arch?
Anyone 18 or over with an iPhone, everywhere in Canada except Quebec for now. Arch is in beta, so it’s free to try while we finish it.
How do I sign in?
With Apple. There’s no password to make, and you can choose to hide your email address from us when you sign in.
Why does Arch ask for my birthday first?
Because Arch is only for adults, and asking first means nobody under 18 fills in a whole profile before finding out. Your age is shown on your profile. Your date of birth never is.
I live in Quebec or outside Canada. Can I join?
Not yet. Arch is only available in Canada outside Quebec for now. We’d like to change that.
Your five
When do new people arrive?
Every morning at 9am Eastern, which is 6am in Vancouver. Everyone’s arrive at once.
I just joined. Do I have to wait until the morning?
Not necessarily. When you finish your profile, Arch looks for people whose five aren’t full yet that day, so your first introductions can arrive within minutes. If there’s nobody yet, your first five arrive at nine.
Why do I have fewer than five?
Arch only introduces people who fit both ways: answers, who you’re each looking for, and age and distance. Where there are fewer people, or your settings are narrow, there are fewer who fit. Widening your age range or distance in You → Settings helps. Nothing is broken; Arch keeps looking every morning.
Can I undo dismissing someone?
Yes, until nine the next morning. That’s when they leave your five and someone new takes the spot. They’re never told either way.
Why are my new matches waiting?
You have ten conversations open (fifteen with Premium). Arch holds new matches until you leave one, so the people you’re talking to get your attention. Leave a conversation you’re not going to answer and they come straight back.
Messages
What is a request?
Your first message to someone. They choose whether to answer, and if they do, it becomes a conversation. There’s no matching step before it.
Can people see when I’ve read their message?
No. Arch has no read receipts, no “seen” and no online status.
What happens when I leave a conversation?
It ends for both of you. From their side, leaving looks exactly the same as blocking or deleting your account.
When does Arch send notifications?
When someone writes to you, and that’s all. You can turn them off in your iPhone’s Settings.
Your account
How do I take a break?
In the app: You → Settings → Pause my profile. Nobody new arrives, and you’re not in anyone else’s list. Your conversations carry on, and the people already in your five stay.
How do I change my questionnaire answers?
You → Settings → Your answers. You can change them once a month, or any time with Premium.
How do I get a copy of my data?
You → Settings → Download your data.
How do I delete my account?
You → Settings → Delete your account. It happens straight away. The Privacy Policy says exactly what is removed, and the little that is kept.
Safety
If someone has made you feel unsafe, block and report them from your conversation. A person reads every report, and they’re never told who reported them. If you are in danger, call 911 first.
